Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Clerk-Phlebotomist to join the Department of Laboratory Services on a full-time day shift. The role involves drawing venous blood samples for testing, educating patients about procedures, and handling receptionist duties within the lab environment.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved phlebotomy training program, with preferred experience or clinical rotation during training.

• Completion of an acceptable phlebotomy training program.

Responsibilities

• Appearance meets department dress code and hospital policy.
• Communicate with patients, explaining procedures prior to venipuncture and ensuring patient safety and comfort.
• Process outpatients, interpret physician orders, venipuncture and billing.
• Collect routine, fasting, timed and stat blood samples as indicated.
• Label specimens with patient and test details accurately.
• Perform receptionist duties.
• Identify patient using armband and two identifiers before collection.
