HOURS/LOCATION:
Per Diem Phlebotomist/Customer Service Specialist: 0.1 FTE Position is designed to support coverage across all outpatient lab testing sites as needed. This role requires flexibility and the ability to travel to any of our 17 outpatient locations, which include: Columbia, County Line, Crooked Oak, Downtown Pavilion, Ephrata, Harrisburg Avenue, Kissel Hill, Lebanon, Lincoln, Manheim, Norlanco, Parkesburg, Strasburg, Suburban Pavilion, Walter Aument, Willow Lakes, Women’s & Babies Lab Testing. Hours could vary anywhere between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm.
Summary:
- Provides complete and accurate patient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, ordering of tests, and coordination of applicable screening, diagnostic, physician office, and outpatient hospital services. Capable of coordinating and communicating effectively during increased volumes or with complex patients. This position requires clinical skills in phlebotomy, EKG, holter monitors, point-of-care testing, and specimen collection. Maintains required competency skills.

Phlebotomy
- Performs venipuncture and capillary specimen collection in an ambulatory setting.
- Validates patient identity, specimen integrity, and maintains working knowledge of specimen requirements and all clinical protocols.
- Documents all stages of specimen collection in required computer systems including investigating and processing orders, receiving specimens, canceling tests, running collection lists, and producing and using reconciliation reports.
- Maintains clinical skills necessary to perform duty job.
- Completes cleaning tasks utilizing regulatory standards.
- Performs maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies according to department standards.
Registration
- Performs complete and accurate patient registration including walk-in, check-in, and scheduled appointments.
- Demonstrates ability to adapt and perform during times of high volumes and high patient acuity. Skills to service both inpatient and outpatient as necessary.
- Supports inbound and outbound calls to or from patients, guests, or appropriate parties, providing services and relaying messages using established protocols.
- Verifies patient, guarantor, coverage, and hospital account information. Performs referral authorization processes and enters test orders.
- Understands insurance coverage and referral requirements. Performs electronic and manual verification of insurance coverage and applies responses accurately.
- Prepares and releases records or orders in the e-Health record. Scans necessary documents into the medical record, understanding the importance of documentation.
- Completes patient scheduling and registration work queues according to standards. Resolves work queue issues and missing registration items via electronic medical record.
- Discusses co-pays, out-of-pocket expenses, pre-appointment prep, and arrival times with patients.
- Supports Point of Service Collections and collects patient financial obligations as needed.
Secondary Duties:
- Additional clinical procedures such as EKG, holter monitors, 24-hour blood pressure, or vital signs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of educational requirements with formal training; supervision for initial competency; annual competency evaluation and training.
- CPR Certification - American Heart Association BLS required within 30 days of hire.
- One year of clerical, customer service, or administrative support in a customer-oriented organization.
- One year experience with basic keyboarding, PC use, and office equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous phlebotomy or registration experience (training provided upon hire).
- One year of Epic or equivalent Electronic Medical Record experience.
