Job summary

Finger Lakes Health in New York seeks a Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens from patients per SOP. You will prioritize care per triage standards and support the laboratory under supervision.

Responsibilities include QA/QC, resolving issues, and providing lab support to the supervisor or technologist. Full-time, day/evening rotation, with rotational holidays. NYS driver’s license required; certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent.
• License/Certifications: NYS driver’s license valid with clean record; Certification preferred: Certified phlebotomist.
• Experience: Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.

• Collect blood specimens from patients according to SOPM.
• Manage initial specimen handling and prioritize care per triage standards.
• Perform and evaluate QA/QC and support testing procedures.
• Provide lab support to supervisor or a qualified technologist as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Support Services Supervisor, collects blood specimens for the laboratory from appropriate patients according to the Standard Operating Procedure Manual (SOPM)

and accepted practices.

Essential Job Functions:

(Maximum of 5 will be included in the performance appraisal)

Responsible for the initial management of specimens of all age groups and assigning priorities of care in accordance with triage standards.

Demonstrates proficiency in all testing procedures/policies according to Standard Operating Procedure Manual (SOPM).

Demonstrates the ability to identify, evaluate appropriate action to resolve problems (including contacts with service hot lines and representatives). Performs and evaluates QA/QC.

Ability to provide lab support to supervisor or a qualified medical technologist as requested

Performs other duties as assigned.

License Required : Valid NYS driver's license clear of violations consistent with the FLH Policy

Certifications Preferred: Certified phlebotomist
