This job performs various laboratory functions to support the department in patient care. Conducts phlebotomy procedures; processes and receives specimens; accessions specimens; distributes specimens; and performs and reports specific test procedures.
Education
Required - High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred - Completion of phlebotomy course
Work Experience
Required - None
Certifications
Preferred - Current license or trainee license in the state of practice

Physical and Environmental DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work when it requires significant walking or standing, or sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls, or working at a production rate pace involving constant pushing and/or pulling of materials.
Mechanical lifting devices (carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods. Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Duties may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potential contact with hazardous materials.
Because of the healthcare setting, there may be occupational risks for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous waste.
