Upstate Medical University in Syracuse is seeking a Phlebotomist for the Department of Pathology. The role involves performing routine and complex phlebotomies, utilizing EMR/LIS systems for patient registrations, and accurately labeling specimens.
Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent and phlebotomy experience or graduation from an approved program. The position requires reliable transportation and offers hours Monday to Friday with possible weekends and holidays.
Functions as a Phlebotomist for the Department of Pathology in all locations. Performs routine and difficult phlebotomies for patients as ordered by qualified providers. Uses EMR/LIS systems to create registrations, transcribe/scan outside physician orders, convert (if needed), release and accession orders and to contact providers. Identifies patients and labels specimens appropriately.
High School Diploma or equivalent and phlebotomy experience or graduation from an approved phlebotomy program required. Typing, computer skills and interpersonal skills are required. Must have reliable means of transportation and a NYS driver’s license.
Phlebotomy experience preferred, and basic understanding of medical laboratory technology and medical terminology desired.
Mon-Fri 8 am to 6 pm; weekends and holidays as needed.
