Job summary

Concord Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to collect venous and capillary blood specimens, perform registrations in the Hospital Information System, and order tests in the LIS. This role supports patient care across ages and coordinates with the Laboratory Patient Service Center.

Education includes a High School diploma or GED, and prior phlebotomy experience is preferred. Hours are Mon-Fri, 7:30am–4pm.

Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy skills required or highly preferred.
  • Experience with patient registration and test ordering is beneficial.
  • Ability to work with multiple information systems in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and process venous and capillary blood samples from patients of all ages.
  • Register patients in the Hospital Information System and place test orders in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Provide customer service to patients and stakeholders in the laboratory; support training as needed.

Summary

Collects, identifies, labels, handles and processes venous and capillary blood specimens from patients for health care providers. Performs a variety of duties involved in the registering and ordering of clinical specimens. Completes clerical duties associated with laboratory specimen collection and processing. Reports to the Laboratory Patient Service Center Supervisor(s) and is accountable to all Laboratory Management Team members. Hours: Mon-Fri 7:30am-4pm Education High school or equivalent (GED). Certification, Registration & Licensure None required. Experience Prior phlebotomy experience highly preferred - excellent phlebotomy skills are needed to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities

Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request. Performs patient registrations in the Hospital Information System. Performs test ordering in the Laboratory Information System. Provides customer service to patients and stakeholders of the laboratory department. Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements. Supports the training of phlebotomy students, nursing or laboratory personnel, in regards to obtaining, handling and transport of specimens and other areas related to phlebotomy. Identifies problems related to work activities, including involvement in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement efforts within the department. Uses resources available to stay up-to-date with new process or flow within the registration/ordering process. Performs other duties as assigned.

The employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards - shock and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
