Concord Hospital is seeking a phlebotomy-focused team member responsible for collecting and labeling venous and capillary blood specimens for laboratory analysis at the patient service center, main facility, and client sites.

The role includes handling specimens, performing capillary glucose testing, and supporting clerical duties in the laboratory. Training phlebotomy staff and maintaining compliance with lab systems are essential components of the job.

Qualifications

  • Identifies problems related to work activities and participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with hospital/laboratory information systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

Performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, identification, and labeling of venous and capillary blood specimens from patients for health care providers at the patient service center(s), main hospital facility, and various client sites, according to established methods and procedures. Responsible for handling of all laboratory specimens, performs capillary glucose testing, and completes clerical duties associated with laboratory specimen collection. Reports to the Supervisor Non-Technical and is accountable to all Laboratory Management Team members.

Hours Mon-Friday 6:30am-10:30pm and an every 4th Saturday morning rotation.

Education

High school or equivalent (GED).

Certification, Registration, and Licensure

None required.

Experience

Training in phlebotomy procedures preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request.
  • Provides customer service to patients and stakeholders of the laboratory department.
  • Assists in training of phlebotomy students, nursing or laboratory personnel, as directed, in regards to obtaining, handling and transport of specimens, and other areas related to phlebotomy.
  • Demonstrates compliance with corporate, departmental and job-specific requirements.
  • Identifies problems related to work activities, including involvement in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement efforts within the department.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in utilization of the hospital/laboratory information and technology systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
