Job description

Job Title: Phlebotomist (Part-Time)

A-Team Solutions is seeking two part-time Phlebotomists to work at our VA outpatient clinics in Clermont and Tavares. The role involves floating between locations as needed, with shifts from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm or 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Job Duties:
  1. Perform venipuncture and urine specimen collection on patients with varying conditions, including difficult draws.
  2. Obtain blood specimens from adults using knowledge of anatomy, aseptic techniques, and appropriate materials.
  3. Select appropriate phlebotomy site based on patient condition, age, and test requirements.
  4. Prepare sites for specimen collection, considering blood specimen types, request forms, anticoagulants, and transport conditions.
  5. Assist in training staff and trainees in phlebotomy techniques.
  6. Perform specimen processing, including centrifugation and aliquoting, following proper procedures.
  7. Administer glucose tolerance tests and monitor patients during testing.
  8. Ensure the phlebotomy area is disinfected and secured at shift end.
  9. Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding patient issues such as fainting or illness.
  10. Explain procedures to patients with empathy and understanding.
Requirements:
  1. High school diploma.
  2. Certified phlebotomy training program completion.
  3. Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience in inpatient or outpatient settings.
  4. Experience with accessioning and processing laboratory specimens.
  5. Ability to read and follow standard operating procedures.
  6. Strong communication skills to report laboratory status and issues.
  7. Computer literacy.
  8. Current BLS certification (American Heart Association).
