Job summary

Community Health Systems is seeking a Phlebotomist (PRN) in Bullhead City, AZ to perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection with strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards. The role requires up to 2 years of phlebotomy experience, excellent communication, and meticulous documentation across all age groups.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of phlebotomy experience required.
• Knowledge of safety guidelines, sanitation, and infection control protocols.
• Ability to perform blood collection techniques across age groups (neonates to geriatrics).
• Understanding of patient identification, specimen handling, and lab testing requirements.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with patients, staff and physicians.
• Demonstrates high level of attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger and heel sticks) following policies and procedures.
• Ensures positive patient identification by using two identifiers and proper labeling at bedside.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the laboratory.
• Explains procedures to patients and provides reassurance to ensure a positive experience.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace per safety standards.
• Documents patient and specimen information accurately in the laboratory system.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and prioritizes tasks to meet clinical needs.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including rejections and recollections when necessary.
• Collaborates with the healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Adheres to all laboratory and hospital safety requirements and regulations.
