Job Summary and Qualifications

A full-time position assisting microbiologists: setting up cultures, performing rapid tests under the microbiologist’s supervision; pulling blood cultures at the end of the incubation; performing designated quality control procedures. The position requires distributing microbiology reference reports as directed. In addition, the position requires phlebotomy skills to assist phlebotomists when needed: collection of blood specimen from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in the hospital or outside as indicate; requires knowledge of laboratory information system

What you will do in this role:

  • Demonstrates competency in evaluating and solving problems related to collection and processing of specimens for analysis.
  • Performs functions on laboratory computer system including monitoring opening list, and printing labels
  • Manages the tube system by canceling alarm, removing specimens, verifying receipts in computer, and delivering them to the appropriate department.
  • Assist in orienting new employees as needed.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge to utilize required computer hardware/software to perform job responsibilities and uses computer equipment/software for business purposes only.
  • Calls of critical value to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner
  • Label samples according to established criteria using 2 patient identifiers
  • Label patient’s blood according to established criteria using 2 patient identifiers and at bedside.
What qualifications you will need:
  • High School preferred
