UPMC is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform accurate blood collection for inpatients and outpatients. This role may include clerical tasks and computer data entry, under supervision of Medical Technologists. High school diploma and phlebotomy certification are preferred; at least six months of phlebotomy experience is desirable.

Qualifikationen

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certification from an accredited program preferred.
• Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology advantageous.
• Experience with laboratory information systems preferred.

Aufgaben

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries.
• Obtain blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick; instruct patients as needed.
• Incorporate patient identification procedures and accurate sample labeling.
• Transport specimens to appropriate lab sections following safety procedures.
• Enter demographic data and test orders into LIS; handle related clerical tasks as needed.
• Train and orient new staff and students; report unusual incidents to supervisors.
