Job summary

CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, New Jersey, seeks a full-time Outreach Phlebotomist for the Day Shift to provide phlebotomy services to skilled nursing facilities within the CentraState service area. The role involves collecting specimens of all ages, labeling, preparing for transport, and accurate order entry.

Travel to Monmouth and Ocean counties with independent work and excellent customer service are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years' experience as ASCP-certified phlebotomy technician preferred (Outreach).
• Certification preferred.
• Proficient computer skills required for registering patients and ordering lab tests.
• Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens on young children to senior citizens through venipuncture, capillary fingerstick, or heelstick.
• Obtain blood according to lab policy and procedure with minimal bruising to patient.
• Label tubes appropriately with initials, date and time.
• Prepare specimens for shipment to testing lab(s).
• Interpret physician orders and perform computer order entry accurately.
• Properly instruct patients in specimen collection, e.g., clean catch urines.
• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
• Register patients and perform order entry accurately.
• Scan documents into the medical record.
• Secure patient signatures on ABN’s.
• Secure patient signature on consents.
• Open facility/Close facility.

Job description

CentraState Medical Center, located in Freehold, New Jersey, is seeking a full-time Outreach Phlebotomist, Day Shift. This position provides phlebotomy services to skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes located in the CentraState service area. The Outreach phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens on all age groups and preparing specimens for transport to testing lab(s). This is a fast-paced, customer-focused environment with high patient volume. The ability to work independently and efficiently is essential. Self-motivated with excellent customer service skills are a must. An eye for detail and a high degree of accuracy in interpreting physician orders is crucial. Other duties include answering the phone and responding to patient/MD requests for lab results, fasting requirements and hours of operation. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel around the service area – Monmouth and Ocean counties. Must be comfortable working alone and willing to drive in inclement weather.

Travel to nursing home accounts in Monmouth and Ocean counties using own vehicle or hospital vehicle.

• Collect blood specimens residents of Nursing Homes through venipuncture
• Obtain blood according to lab policy and procedure with minimal bruising to patient
• Label tubes at the bedside with initials, date and time
• Interpret physician orders and perform computer order entry accurately

Compensation Range: $19.50 - $31.20 per hour. The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training. As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range. Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.
