Job summary

CommonSpirit Health’s Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, California is seeking a Phlebotomist to competently collect blood and other specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

You will identify patients, explain procedures, perform venipunctures, label and prepare specimens, and adhere to safety protocols while maintaining high quality and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

• 2 years experience as either a CPT or as a Laboratory Assistant in a clinical laboratory or a full service outreach laboratory setting, upon hire.
• Phlebotomist: CA, upon hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Processes, collects, and transports specimens from patients of all ages in an accurate and safe manner following CLSI guidelines and laboratory policies.
• Proficient in the use of the laboratory computer systems including entering lab tests, creating collection batches for transport of specimens, and reporting to physician offices when requested.
• Proficient in understanding specimen processing requirements and quality collection.
• Communicates and follows safety and billing processes; supports accuracy of orders and compliance data.
• Promotes a positive image and teamwork with hospital staff and other departments to ensure patient satisfaction.

*Job Summary and Responsibilities*

As a Phlebotomist, you will competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety.

Every day you will identify patients, explain procedures, proficiently perform venipunctures, and accurately label/prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to safety protocols.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills for accurate diagnostics and patient satisfaction.

• Processes, collects, and transports specimens from patients of all ages in an accurate and safe manner following CLSI guidelines and laboratory policies. Complete and accurate patient and specimen identification is demonstrated. Follows verbal and written instructions exactly.
• Proficient in the use of the laboratory computer systems including but not limited to: consistently and accurately enters lab tests, creating collection batches for transport of specimens to main laboratory, competent in creating report and faxing to physician offices when requested. Maintains routine standing and to follow orders appropriately and ensures all are up to date.
• Proficient in understanding specimen processing requirements and quality collection. Able to articulate patient education instructions for quality patient collected samples.
• Consistently utilizes approved protocols and demonstrates teamwork and cooperation to ensure specimens are collected, transported, received, and distributed in an efficient and timely manner. Works consistently and uses time productively. Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Competent to perform all types of registration duties as required with complete and accurate information. Understands and follows billing processes. Ensures all laboratory orders are compliant with laboratory standards and provides follow-up for all missing compliance data.
• Promotes a positive image of dignity health through professional, effecient and pleasant interactions with patients, physician, provider staff and co-workers. Interacts well with other hospital departments including but not limited to: admitting, billing and other ancillary departments. Consistently promotes patient satisfaction which is monitored by survey scores measured monthly.

*Preferred*

• 3 years experience as either a CPT or a Lab Assistant in a full service outreach laboratory setting strongly preferred. 1 year previous venipuncture experience
• High school and/or college chemistry, biology, or mathematics are highly desired
