Candidates must hold valid Pennsylvania phlebotomy certification and CPR, have experience with specimen processing and EHR systems, and comply with Bureau of Prisons requirements.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid phlebotomy certification to practice in Pennsylvania.
• CPR certification current per AHA or Red Cross.
• Experience collecting, labeling, processing, packaging, and shipping specimens.
• Knowledge of laboratory recordkeeping, quality procedures, and infection control.
• Ability to use electronic health records, scanners, and standard lab equipment.
• Professional communication with patients, clinicians, correctional staff, and providers.
• Security requirements for Bureau of Prisons employment.

Responsibilities

• Receive patients, verify identity, explain procedures, and maintain clinic flow.
• Collect blood and other specimens using safe, infection-control practices.
• Measure and document vital signs and weights when required.
• Organize and perform laboratory studies and specimen collection activities.
• Prepare, label, package, and transport specimens per shipping rules.
• Ensure lab requests are complete, reports scanned and filed correctly.
• Scan results into the Bureau EMR and keep required records.
• Assist with admissions processing, DNA procedures, vaccines, and PPD updates.
• Coordinate with reference labs and support CLIA processes and QA programs.
• Monitor equipment, perform routine maintenance, and identify supply needs.
• Protect patient information per Privacy Act and security policies.
• Follow security procedures and adapt to changing schedules.
