RWJBarnabas Health in New Jersey is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect and process laboratory specimens with precision and compassion. You will identify, label, and transport specimens, ensuring accuracy and timely results for patient care.

This role emphasizes patient interactions, infection control, and collaboration with nurses and physicians while supporting continuous professional development. Night shift, full-time, 40 hours weekly, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Completed a phlebotomy training program or medical laboratory technology program with phlebotomy training; certification preferred.
• 0 to 2 years of experience performing blood or specimen collection procedures.
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
• Scheduling Requirements: Full Time (FT), Night Shift, 40 hours per week (10:30 PM - 7:00 AM). Rotating weekends and holidays required.

Responsibilities

• Collecting blood and other laboratory specimens from patient populations using established venipuncture and capillary collection protocols.
• Accurately identifying, labeling, processing, and preparing specimens for laboratory testing at the point of collection while maintaining specimen integrity.
• Ensuring all specimens are handled and transported to the laboratory under proper environmental conditions, according to standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Providing compassionate, professional patient interactions while monitoring patients closely for adverse reactions during and after collection.
• Verifying patient identification using approved identification methods and following established procedures to promote patient safety and accurate testing.
• Maintaining accurate documentation of collection details within laboratory systems and assisting with specimen accessioning duties, including the operation and maintenance of automated equipment.
• Collaborating closely with nurses, physicians, laboratory staff, and other members of the healthcare team to support efficient patient care.
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment by keeping collection equipment well-stocked and following infection prevention practices, safety guidelines, and organizational policies.
• Pursuing continued professional development through training, education, and organizational resources that support long term career growth.
