Responsibilities
- Demonstrate high skill in HIS functions for patient registration, including collecting accurate patient information, reviewing and entering physician orders, and completing patient forms.
- Verify patient demographic information using two identifiers and ensure accuracy.
- Verify insurance eligibility online and update records accordingly.
- Complete registration forms with appropriate codes and comply with current registration, coding, and billing policies.
- Use the order entry system to troubleshoot errors and place work orders.
- Place orders accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), look up test codes, and handle collection information.
- Monitor reports for specimens and results, and manage HIS-LIS interactions to resolve issues.
- Perform daily operational tasks, including specimen tracking and documentation.
- Follow safety protocols during venous or capillary blood collection, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification.
- Assist with urine drug screens and legal alcohol collections following procedures.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and patients, answer phones professionally, and stay updated on departmental protocols.
- Manage supplies, organize specimens for testing, and ensure proper documentation.
- Handle specimen processing, including sending samples out and managing laboratory protocols.
- Participate in quality management and communicate issues to IT support.
- Operate hospital vehicles safely if required and lead in phlebotomy competency and training.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of Phlebotomy experience and completion of a Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant training program.
- Full registration training completed within 90 days of hire.
- Knowledge of coding, insurance, and basic medical terminology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Act 33, 34, and 73 FBI Clearances with renewal.
Work Details
- Scheduled based on operational needs, including shifts, standby, and on-call.
- Local travel between System locations may be required.
