Metro Health is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Laboratory team. This individual should have completed at least 150 blood draws after completing a phlebotomy training course. The position is an integral part of our team, ensuring proper samples/specimens are collected for accurate patient diagnosis and monitoring. The ideal candidate will have strong follow-through skills, excellent customer service, and the ability to build rapport quickly with guests.

General Summary:

Obtains accession, prepares, and distributes laboratory specimens for testing. Performs a limited number of point-of-care tests.

Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma required; 1-2 years of college (pre-med or pre-med tech) is desirable.
  2. Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant training/experience preferred.
  3. Certification is preferred after one year of experience with ASCP, ASPT, NCA, or AMT.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  1. Perform correct venipuncture techniques on inpatient and outpatient samples using appropriate equipment.
  2. Obtain non-blood specimens (stool, urinalysis, sputum, etc.) when necessary.
  3. Collect blood culture specimens following proper procedures.
  4. Collect outpatient newborn screen specimens as per procedure on the back of the card.
  5. Follow patient identification policies strictly.
  6. Monitor barcode and accession printers regularly; remove and sort labels, and match orders to specimens.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
