Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $15.75 - $28.35 (based on a full time schedule of 40 hours per week).

Please note that the final offer will vary based on scheduled hours. Compensation for part-time or reduced schedules will be prorated based on scheduled weekly hours, experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Schedule Details: Holidays - Every Third Holiday, Monday through Friday, Weekends - Every Third Weekend

Scheduled Hours: Monday-Friday 3:30p-8:00pm Saturday-Sunday 9:00am-5:00pm

The Lab Support Tech I cordially greets and receives patients, ascertains their needs, and appropriately directs them. This role includes computer and telephone use, clerical duties, and performing phlebotomy procedures, including blood cultures, EKGs, breath tests, MRSA and COVID swabbing.

I. Major Responsibilities:

Specimen Collection

1. 1. Collects blood samples using appropriate venipuncture techniques across all age groups.
2. 2. Follows departmental protocols for sample collection.
3. 3. Communicates difficulties or complications to supervisors and maintains professional conduct.

Specimen Receiving and Distribution

1. 1. Receives specimens in the computer system.
2. 2. Labels and prioritizes specimens (e.g., STAT, STROKE, CSF) accurately.
3. 3. Transports specimens promptly and redistributes them per protocol.

Work Area Organization

1. 1. Maintains a clean and organized drawing station or cart.
2. 2. Restocks supplies at the end of each shift.
3. 3. Keeps patient orders accessible and organized.

Specimen Registration

1. 1. Registers all courier-delivered specimens accurately and efficiently.
2. 2. Troubleshoots printer issues as needed.

Computer and Test Ordering Support

1. 1. Demonstrates mastery of hospital information systems.
2. 2. Orders tests accurately using knowledge of test dictionaries and panels.
3. 3. Communicates with departments for clarification when needed.

Telephone Support

1. 1. Answers and transfers calls courteously and efficiently.
2. 2. Ensures coverage for incoming calls at all times.

Capillary Collection

1. 1. Performs heel sticks and PKU collections proficiently.
2. 2. Ensures proper sample volume and quality.

Resource Utilization

1. 1. Adapts to workflow changes and staffing needs.
2. 2. Provides coverage for home draws, secretarial duties, and drawing stations.
3. 3. Offers constructive feedback to supervisors.

General Lab Duties

1. 1. Restocks supplies and reports low inventory.
2. 2. Uses PPE appropriately and provides shift reports.
3. 3. Maintains procedural proficiency through annual reviews.

Emergency Room Support

1. 1. Uses Responder 5 efficiently and works independently.
2. 2. Maintains PPE compliance and pager readiness.
3. 3. Stocks supplies, trains nursing staff, and ensures timely patient draws.

Age-Specific Competency

1. 1. Applies knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care.
2. 2. Demonstrates age-appropriate communication and support.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education

Required:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Valid driver's license

2. ASCP certification or eligibility
