Job summary

Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT, is seeking a Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory Services team. You will perform venipuncture and specimen collection across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department settings.

The ideal candidate will have phlebotomy experience, solid knowledge of medical terminology, and strong computer skills. You will deliver excellent patient service while ensuring accurate specimen handling and efficient workflow.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three months phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital setting; certification/registration preferred.
• Strong background in medical terminology with demonstrated computer proficiency.
• Excellent communication and customer relations abilities with ability to handle multiple priorities and work under stress.
• Ability to lift patients and handle equipment with good manual dexterity.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection for patients of all ages across inpatient, outpatient, and ED settings.
• Execute comprehensive laboratory support functions including clerical tasks, test orders, specimen prep and labeling, and coordination with reference labs.
• Provide front-line customer service through patient interaction, phone calls, and appointment coordination.
• Maintain laboratory operations through equipment monitoring, inventory management, biohazardous waste disposal, and adherence to safety protocols.
