Description

Summary:
Responsible for performing all the duties of a phlebotomist including specimen collection, specimen receiving, and specimen referrals.

Responsibilities

1. Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
2. Ensure that the company philosophy and core values are evident in the service delivered to customers.
3. Seek and achieve professional growth and continued education.
4. Assure quality of work performed by all associates. Coordinate services to customers to ensure satisfaction and cost-efficiency.
5. Ensure compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including privacy and security of health information (PHI).
6. Maintain collection tray/container/bag and working area in a neat and sanitary condition; restock as necessary.
7. Procure supplies for the department in cooperation with the team lead.
8. Perform all duties of a phlebotomist: specimen collection, receiving, and send-outs.
9. Prepare specimens for referral to outside labs, including ordering tests, packaging, calling for transportation, referral paperwork, and mailing.
10. Perform all patient specimen collections, including venipuncture, capillary collection, urine drug screens, skin tests, and cultures.
11. Ensure specimen requirements are met and maintain specimen integrity.
12. Demonstrate good communication skills when interacting with customers, patients, family, nurses, physicians, and co-workers.
13. Operate the laboratory computer system for documentation and other tasks.
14. Perform other duties as assigned, such as standby/on-call, inventory, projects, and cross-training.
15. Complete performance evaluations and competency assessments timely.

Education/Skills

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Completion of a Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory, or Medical Assistant program that includes phlebotomy preferred.
• Familiar with medical terminology, data entry, and organizational skills.

Experience

• One year phlebotomy experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Certification from a National Accredited Program preferred.
