Job Summary
The Phlebotomist I performs daily phlebotomy activities at the Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-office Phlebotomy (IOP), accurately and on time. This role involves interacting with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel professionally and courteously, performing specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Greet customers appropriately and treat all customers courteously.
- Ensure all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and timely.
- Collect specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process clearly and courteously to reduce patient anxiety.
- Dispose of blood, biohazard fluids, and contaminated sharps in accordance with laws, standards, and policies.
- Complete requisitions accurately.
- Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the computer with high accuracy.
- Research test/client information using lab computer systems.
- Match requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Package specimens for transport, maintaining sample integrity according to protocols.
- Maintain required records and documentation.
- Maintain daily records and PSC/IOP Phlebotomy logs.
- Assist with compiling monthly statistics and data.
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and electronic data entry.
- Approve time in attendance software and submit expense and travel logs as directed.
- Adhere to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies, appearing neat and clean.
- Utilize time effectively and accommodate fluctuating patient flow.
- Display courteous and professional behavior, communicating effectively with clients, patients, and co-workers.
- Answer the telephone courteously, incorporating the company name and helpful statements.
- Perform duties independently and communicate issues to supervisors.
- Contribute positively to the work environment and team effort.
- Maintain facilities, report repairs, and assist with inventory counts.
- Use proper PPE and follow safety precautions and lab procedures.
- Follow security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect sensitive information.
- Abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
