Job Description
The Phlebotomist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Phlebotomist provides expert phlebotomy services with excellent customer service and communication skills. Must function effectively as part of a team that prioritizes “Patients First”.
Responsibilities include venipuncture collection, specimen processing, order entry, verification of test results, patient information retrieval, and clerical duties.
Responsibilities:

  • Performs phlebotomy and lab specimen collections per standards and policies.
  • Uses AIDET model and ensures patient safety to minimize errors.
  • Receives and reviews physician orders, enters lab test orders accurately.
  • Provides post-phlebotomy patient care and communication.
  • Processes specimens promptly, maintaining sample integrity.
  • Monitors refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records, reports issues.
  • Operates and maintains relevant equipment.
  • Communicates specimen procurement issues to labs or physicians.
  • Maintains a safe work environment, adheres to biohazard procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties including order entry, result verification, and inventory management.
  • Uses resources efficiently, participates in cost-reduction efforts.
  • Completes continuing education and competency assessments.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and professional interaction.
  • Applies critical thinking and judgment to resolve issues.
  • Follows organizational policies on ethics and business practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a recognized organization, training, or one year of healthcare experience, or CMA certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with lab specimen processing and centrifuging.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
