Job summary

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, completion of an approved phlebotomy program, and ASCP/ASPT registration, with a standard onsite day schedule and room for professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Consults with healthcare providers/patients about phlebotomy-related concerns.

• May train new staff and phlebotomy students.
• Reviews test results for accuracy and timely reporting.
• Performs phlebotomy, QC, and equipment maintenance.

Summary

The Phlebotomist II performs venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis. May perform EKGs, waived and moderately complex testing with supervision. May perform pre-employment drugs of abuse screens. Performs various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Monitors incomplete work lists on LIS throughout shift. May perform assay for ABG’s and COOX samples with appropriate supervision. The Phlebotomist II will have a certification in a phlebotomy registry.

Responsibilities

• Consults/confers with healthcare providers/patients regarding patient care as it relates to phlebotomy service issues.


• Ensures quality and accuracy of work.


• Investigates problems with equipment, patient results, specimens and/or workflow.


• May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.


• May perform teaching and training of new employees, phlebotomy students and/or other healthcare providers.


• May review test results to ensure accuracy of reporting and timely correction of errors or report results to healthcare providers.


• Performs phlebotomy procedures, quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.


• Responsible for and/or ensures completion of daily work and assigned tasks. Monitors daily operation of laboratory work area.

Other Information

• High school graduate or equivalent.


• Graduate of an approved training program in Phlebotomy.


• Registered as a Phlebotomist through ASCP or ASPT.
