Actalent is seeking a Phlebotomist II for an onsite contract position in Port Jefferson, NY. The role focuses on blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and data recording within a clinical setting.

You will work at a Patient Service Center with a Monday–Friday 6:30 AM–2:30 PM schedule and occasional Saturday shifts. Training begins at start with two days on-site, followed by routine compliance with health regulations and TB requirements.

Qualifications

• Certified phlebotomist as required by state.
• At least 6 months venipuncture experience in fast-paced lab or hospital.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in phlebotomy or a clinical setting.
• Able to work independently and manage multiple draws daily.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information as needed.
• Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
• Follow physicians' orders accurately and match forms to tubes.

Job Title: Phlebotomist IIJob Description

The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist with a variety of tasks including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position requires proficiency in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information as needed.
• Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles or butterfly needles.
• Understand and execute all physicians' orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes correctly.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.
• Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match the script 100%.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state.
• Minimum of 6 months experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Work Environment

The position is located at a Patient Service Center in Port Jefferson. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM and Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM. The role requires working alone and involves a minimum of two days of training at the start. Compliance with health regulations, including TB requirements, is necessary.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.16 - $25.16/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
