The Phlebotomist II is responsible for the efficient and safe obtaining of appropriate blood samples from patients for the performance of laboratory procedures. The Phlebotomist II assists with ongoing training and/or precepting of new and current employees as directed by the supervisor. The Phlebotomist II is responsible for ensuring new processes, equipment and other changes are communicated and/or taught to other Phlebotomists.

What you will do in this role:
  • Responsible for the efficient and safe obtaining of appropriate blood samples from patients for the performance of laboratory procedures, and for the proper processing of these samples.
  • Verifies patient identify verbally and by checking name and unique identifier on patients arm band before performing any specimen collection procedure.
  • Properly collects and processes specimens for in-house and reference laboratory testing.
  • Answers the phone with a pleasant demeanor and assists customers in any way possible.
  • Assists with training of new hires and phlebotomy students.
  • Assists with clerical duties as needed.
  • Ensures continuity of care across shifts.
  • Fosters teamwork through participation in department activities and committees.
  • Develops orientation manual and assists with orientation of new personnel. Serves as a positive role model and resource for peers.
  • Ensures new processes, equipment, policies/procedures, etc. are communicated to Phlebotomists promptly
  • Leads by example as reflected in positive feedback from patients and staff.
  • Interacts with patients, families, visitors, medical, nursing, and laboratory staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered.
  • Helps maintain adequate inventory and organize supply closet for efficiency.
  • Develops equipment tracking system and perform regular evaluations of equipment inventory for repair/replacement.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
  • Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
  • Promoting consistent positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service
  • Practicing and adhering to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement"
  • Performing other duties as assigned
What Qualifications you will need:
  • 1+ year(s) of experience at an HCA facility
  • 2+ years of experience in an acute care setting
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Preferred
