Job summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Phlebotomist II in Edison, NJ for a hospital-based position at JFK. The role involves collecting specimens, performing phlebotomy tasks, and ensuring accurate data entry and billing processes within established procedures.

Qualifications

  • Three years phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license, with a clean driving record if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams.
  • Administer oral solutions according to established training.
  • Research test/client information and verify all orders using lab technology systems, client contact, and approved tools.
  • Navigate a computer and accurately enter data.
  • Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following policies.
  • Process specimens including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and preparing for transport as required by test order.
  • Perform non-patient facing duties such as inventory, stocking supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones, and using email.
  • Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data as needed.
  • Maintain phlebotomy logs timely (e.g., maintenance and temperature logs).
  • Complete online and in-person training courses timely.

Job Title & Location

Phlebotomist II – Edison, NJ. Hospital‑based position at JFK.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM, with rotational weekends.

Pay

Pay range: $24.51 – $29.12 per hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

  • Perform all non‑patient facing duties, including inventory, stocking supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones, and utilizing email as appropriate.
  • Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
  • Complete online and in‑person training courses timely.
Required Work Experience
  • Three years phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.

  • Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on‑call and overtime.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Language Proficiency

Ability to communicate effectively in English.
