The primary role of the Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position requires proficiency in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and labeling of specimens.
  • Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
  • Decontaminate and update patient information.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Comprehend and follow all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test order requirements.
  • Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers.
  • Accurately label specimens and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of experience required in an Office, Lab, or Patient Service Center.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in geriatrics and pediatrics.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Patient care experience.
  • Data entry proficiency.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
