Job summary

Spectraforce Technologies is seeking a Phlebotomist I in Bloomington, MN for a 3-month assignment. The role involves performing blood draws, labeling and processing specimens, and ensuring proper specimen handling and transport.

You will work with a small team in a fast-paced laboratory setting. The ideal candidate has at least 6 months of phlebotomy experience, familiarity with venipuncture techniques, and basic MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience.
• Previous experience in a hospital or fast-paced laboratory preferred.
• Experience performing inpatient hospital blood draws is highly preferred.
• Comfortable working with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Proficient in specimen processing, labeling, centrifuging, and packaging.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certification, if required by state regulations.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture and other specimen collection as required.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen sample according to required temperature, label correctly, follow protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.
• Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
