Hours per Pay Period: 0.01 = per diem (as needed) (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage: $17.00 - $21.25
The incumbent in this position is responsible for collecting and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis. Accurately obtains blood samples via venipuncture and capillary collection procedures with minimum patient discomfort. Ensures age-appropriate care is provided to patients from infant to geriatric. Ensures specimen integrity by following the laboratory’s procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing. Promotes quality patient/client relations and creates supportive climate. Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to the laboratory. Adheres to all laboratory policies and regulations.
Essential Job Functions
•Collects and prepares patient specimens to includeblood, urine, sputum, and cultures. Coordinate specimen collection withphysicians and/or nursing staff when draws must be taken from patients withcentral lines, groshong catheters and IV assisted draws.
•Adhere to established guidelines and procedures foraccurate patient and specimen identification, identifying non-compliancesituations and take the necessary steps to bring situation into compliance.
•Utilize computerized systems to enter laboratory orders,patient charges, generate reports, answer inquiries and resolve problems.
•Coordinate with physicians, nursing staff and otherhealth care providers for clarification of orders, laboratory tests available,test result turnaround times, and for coordination of laboratory specialprocedures involving other health care providers.
•Refers questions regarding types of tests beingperformed and other aspects of care to the appropriate health care provider.Provides instructions to patients regarding specimen collection to be completedin the home environment. Coordinate with patients and physicians regardingcollection errors and initiate appropriate follow-up measures to correcterrors.
•Provide back up to laboratory positions on days,evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays and as needed. Duties includeanswering phones, requisition entry, routing patient orders, e.g., add-onorders, and preparation of specimens for testing.
•Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and a neat,orderly and clean work area.
•Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth anddevelopment; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
Supports and models behaviors consistent with BillingsClinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and serviceexpectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agencystandards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or jobperformance.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
•16 years of age minimum
•Completion of Phlebotomy Certification coursework or phlebotomy experience preferred but not required. On the job trainingavailable
•Courses inmathematics and science, preferred

•Completion of Phlebotomy Certification course work or phlebotomy experience preferred.
