Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a motivated phlebotomist/medical assistant to join the Outpatient Laboratory team at Anschutz Medical Campus. You will support pediatric, adult and prenatal testing, performing venipuncture and ensuring proper patient identification and timely sample processing.

The role requires typical phlebotomy duties, specimen preparation and maintenance responsibilities, with occasional travel to System of Care locations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Phlebotomist certificate or Medical Assistant certificate or EMT certificate (CO EMT or NREMT) or 6 months of phlebotomist/MA/EMT experience.

Responsibilities

  • Procure blood via venipuncture, fingerstick or heel stick per age guidelines.
  • Ensure correct patient identification and accurate order data.
  • Prepare specimens for distribution and analysis per procedures.
  • Create hospital registration encounters.
  • Respond promptly to patient and customer needs and inquiries.
  • Perform regulatory-compliant lab functions and quality indicators.
  • Manage reagents, inventory and general maintenance.
  • Collect non-blood specimens as needed within scope.
  • May perform waived testing with quality control.

Shift

Outpatient Lab at Anschutz Medical Campus

Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders

Monday - Friday

4, 10 hour shifts - 07:00 - 17:30

Rotating weekends from 08:00 - 12:00

  • This role will require travel to support our System of Care locations.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Procure blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick or heel stick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines.
  • Ensures patient is correctly identified through the hospital registration system, accounts numbers are current and correct tests are ordered; checks requisitions for data entry errors and resolves questionable orders in a timely manner.
  • Accurately prepares specimens for distribution and analysis according to laboratory procedures.
  • Creates hospital registration encounters.
  • Responds in a timely manner to patient/customer needs, including prompt attention to pneumatic tubes, customer deliveries, patient wait times and phone calls.
  • Performs laboratory functions according to guidelines established by regulatory agencies, including familiarization with regulations and quality indicators.
  • Performs reagent, inventory and general maintenance, as required.
  • Collects additional non-blood specimens within scope of practice including, but not limited, to nasopharyngeal swabs, throat swabs, buccal swabs and urine specimens.
  • May perform waived testing according to guidelines and documents quality control appropriately.

  • CERTIFICATION(S) – Phlebotomist certificate or Medical Assistant certificate or EMT certificate (CO EMT or NREMT) or 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist, MA or EMT.

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $18.27 to $27.40
