Job description

Phlebotomist Group Lead - Woodbury, MN - Monday to Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM (Rotational Weekends)

Representsthe face of our company to patients who come to Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their health routine or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The PSR IV must have a deep understanding and knowledge of established practices and procedures and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence to our patients, customers, clients, and internal leadership. This role ensures the accurate and timely completion of daily work in the Patient Service Center/Mobile/Long Term Care/In-Office Phlebotomy. The PSR IV also provides support to the Supervisor or Functional Patient Services Manager regarding patients, clients, field, compliance, training, metrics, and administration in the Patient Service Region. It functions as a backup to the Patient Services Supervisor during their absence.

The PSR IV demonstrates Quest Leadership Behaviors, focusing on process excellence, confidentiality, and accuracy. Responsibilities include managing PSC and IOP activities, opening and closing locations, and potentially working in various environments such as doctor’s offices, patient service centers, or long-term care facilities. The role involves coaching, mentoring, and onboarding new employees and clients, acting as a regional contact, and providing input to supervisors or managers. Leadership and customer-facing skills are vital, including communication, problem-solving, and collaboration with multiple functions like Sales, Laboratory Testing, IT, Billing, and Logistics.

Pay Range

$25.24 - $29.04 / hour. Salary offers depend on skills, experience, education, certifications, and market factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities
  1. Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams.
  2. Administer oral solutions following training.
  3. Research test/client information, verify orders, and utilize lab systems for accuracy.
  4. Complete data entry for patient registration, test orders, and manage standing orders.
  5. Enter billing info and process payments securely.
  6. Process specimens: labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing as required.
  7. Perform clerical duties like inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones.
  8. Follow departmental policies, protocols, and procedures diligently.
  9. Verify patient demographic info and labels post-venipuncture.
  10. Compile and submit monthly statistics.
  11. Maintain phlebotomy logs and keep training current.
  12. Travel to meetings and participate in special projects.
  13. Stay updated on company communications and technical info.
  14. Perform Point of Care testing and complete training/competency evaluations.
  15. Mentor and onboard new employees and assist with office setup.
  16. Support patient inquiries and problem resolution as needed.
  17. Ensure safety protocols are followed, including PPE use.
  18. Assist with SOP implementation and facility maintenance.
  19. Provide leadership and feedback on staff performance.
Qualifications

Required: 7 years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections; data entry skills; flexible with scheduling including weekends and holidays; reliable transportation and valid driver’s license; travel flexibility.

Preferred: Medical training (e.g., medical assistant, paramedic); 5+ years in PSC/IOP environments; retail or service customer experience.

Physical & Mental Requirements
  • Lift objects up to 25 pounds frequently; occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
  • Sit/stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and travel.
  • Use phone and PC extensively; good dexterity and coordination.
  • Perform walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, and twisting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Education
  • Adherence to all Quest policies and safety standards.
  • Effective communication in English.
  • High-quality work in a fast-paced environment, independent work capability, excellent phlebotomy skills, customer focus, decision-making ability, and multitasking skills.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required). Certifications: Phlebotomy certification required in certain states.
