Job description

Phlebotomist-Grayslake Lab Part Time Days

Overview

This is a part-time position at 20 hours per week located at our Grayslake Outpatient Center. The hours are from 8am to 4:30pm, with every other Saturday 7am to 12pm.

Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections following age-related standards and departmental policies.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills, adhering to the AIDET model.
  • Review physician orders and ensure all necessary information is included; enter accurate orders in compliance with policies.
  • Provide post-phlebotomy patient care and communicate effectively with patients.
  • Process specimens promptly, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging for transport.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, monitor refrigerator temperatures, and record QC/QA data.
  • Follow safety protocols, including proper biohazard waste procedures.
  • Perform clerical duties such as order entry, result verification, and inventory management.
  • Participate in continuing education and competency assessments.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and utilize critical thinking to resolve issues.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in phlebotomy from a recognized organization, or training from a medical institution, or at least one year of healthcare experience in phlebotomy, or CMA certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience in processing and handling lab specimens and using centrifuges.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
