Job Summary
Job Duties
The Phlebotomist II has sufficient experience and can independently perform venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults, to obtain blood specimens. They possess knowledge of processing specimens for analysis and can utilize appropriate computer systems to register patients, facilitate billing, accession laboratory specimens, and provide information. The Phlebotomist II is responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of tasks to ensure the highest analytical quality of specimens for testing and accurate information for clients. This includes supporting the goals and objectives of providing quality patient care and patient satisfaction. A key duty of a phlebotomist is to make patients feel relaxed and protected while collecting a blood sample. Explaining the blood drawing process and showing a comforting attitude helps create an amiable environment.

As a phlebotomist, you'll support Geisinger's mission of providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services. Our phlebotomists are the friendly faces that collect samples for analysis in our state-of-the-art labs. Supporting a varied patient population, you'll be responsible for venipunctures/skin punctures on patients in our inpatient setting.
Additional tasks include troubleshooting physician orders, processing specimens for testing, and aiding patients.
We have many skill levels in our labs, from new to experienced phlebotomists, all of whom are well utilized. Geisinger employs phlebotomists in roles I, II, and III, and many pursue ASCP certification to become trainers in our department.
Phlebotomist I, II, and III qualifications will be considered for appropriate compensation. Salary is commensurate with experience. Experience as a nursing assistant (NA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical assistant (MA), certified medical assistant (CMA), or similar roles will be considered. Military experience is also valued, including US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman, and related specialties.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) - Required
Experience: Minimum of 1 year in healthcare preferred
Certifications: Member of NAACLS or similar accrediting agency
