Summary:
Responsible for performing all the duties of a phlebotomist, including specimen collection, receiving, and referrals.
Responsibilities:

- Ensure compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including privacy and security of health information (PHI).
- Maintain collection tray/container/bag and working area in a neat and sanitary condition; restock as necessary.
- Procure supplies for the department in cooperation with the team lead.
- Perform all duties of a phlebotomist, including specimen collection, receiving, and send-outs.
- Prepare specimens for referral to outside labs, including ordering tests, packaging specimens, scheduling transportation, and handling referral paperwork.
- Perform patient specimen collections such as venipuncture, capillary collection, urine drug screens, skin tests, and cultures.
- Ensure specimen requirements are met and maintain specimen integrity.
- Demonstrate good communication skills when interacting with customers, patients, family members, nurses, physicians, clients, and co-workers.
- Operate the laboratory computer system for documentation, registration, order entry, and other tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including standby/on-call, inventory, projects, and cross-training.
- Complete performance evaluations and annual competency assessments timely.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Completion of a Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory, or Medical Assistant program that includes phlebotomy preferred.
- Familiar with medical terminology, computer data entry, and organizational skills.
Experience:
- One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Certification from a National Accredited Program preferred.
