Job summary

A-Team Solutions is seeking a part-time PRN Phlebotomist for the VA Outpatient Clinic in Kissimmee, FL. Day shift; Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm. The role involves phlebotomy, specimen collection, and processing, with duties including training others and ensuring proper specimen handling.

Minimum 2 years phlebotomy experience in inpatient/outpatient settings is required, along with a certified training program and BLS certification. Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years phlebotomy experience in inpatient/outpatient setting.
  • Experience with accessioning and processing of laboratory specimens.
  • Able to read and adhere to SOPs; follow lab processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and urine collection for a range of patients.
  • Obtain venous blood specimens from adults using proper technique and equipment.
  • Prepare sites and transport specimens with correct anticoagulants and test requests.
  • Assist in training staff and students in phlebotomy techniques.
  • Perform processing procedures (centrifugation, aliquot specimens) under guidance.
  • Administer glucose tolerance tests and collect timed blood draws.
  • Disinfect and close Phlebotomy Room at shift end.
  • Notify Medical Staff of patient status during incidents.

A-Team Solutions is seeking (1) Phlebotomist for a part-time PRN position for the VA Outpatient Clinic in Kissimmee, FL. Day Shift

Job Duties:

Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture) and urine specimen collection on patients ranging from minimally to critically ill who may be hard to draw. Works as a phlebotomy technician, obtaining venous blood specimens from adults using knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic technique, and phlebotomy material selection (i.e. vacutainer, syringe, butterfly). Uses judgment in selection of phlebotomy site based upon the patient's condition, age group, and type of test to be performed. Prepares phlebotomy site for proper specimen collection, based upon knowledge of blood specimen types, request forms, anticoagulants and transport conditions testing procedures. Assists in training other personnel (employees and student trainees) in proper phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques. Performs processing procedures (centrifugation, splitting specimens into aliquots under the guidance of others, requiring knowledge of the correct type tube, amount of specimen needed, and procedure to be followed according to the test requested). Performs glucose tolerance testing by administering pretest substances, drawing blood at specific time intervals. Assists in disinfecting and closing the Phlebotomy Room at the end. of the shift. Contacts Medical Staff in handling patients in cases of fainting, convulsions, and illness. Conveys to the patient the intention of performing a phlebotomy while showing understanding and empathy for the patient's condition.

Requirements:
  • High school graduate.
  • certified phlebotomy training program.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in phlebotomy in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • Experience with accessioning of laboratory specimens
  • Experience with processing of laboratory specimens
  • Capable of reading standard operating procedures and adhering them to the current laboratory processes.
  • Communicate clearly the daily status and problems about the laboratory output to team members and senior management of the service.
  • Computer literate.
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
