UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform precise blood collection and specimen handling for inpatients and outpatients. You will work under Medical Technologists and may perform clerical tasks as part of the laboratory operations.

The role emphasizes accuracy, compassion, and efficiency in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment. Training and orientation will be provided for new staff and students as applicable.

Competenze

• 6+ months of related experience preferred but not required.
• Previous medical or customer service experience is preferred.

Mansioni

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries.
• Procure appropriate blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick; instruct patients on collection procedures.
• Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgment to prioritize department needs.
• Transport specimens from collection areas to the appropriate laboratory section following safety procedures.
• Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies on procedures, quality control, safety and hand hygiene.
• Enter demographic information into information systems; manage test orders, charges, and credits.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as applicable.
• Inform technical staff and pathologists of unusual or problematic incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following collection guidelines.
• Monitors and maintains supplies; uses materials cost-effectively.
