Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and LIS experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously; respond to inquiries.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick as required.
• Instruct patients on collection procedures when needed; collect non-blood samples if required.
• Transports specimens to the appropriate laboratory sections following safety procedures.
• Enter demographic information and test orders accurately into the LIS.
• Train new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
• Inform staff and pathologists of unusual or problematic incidents.
• Monitor supplies and use reagents cost-effectively.
