Responsibilities

A nonexempt position responsible for performing venipuncture on patients.

• Uses customer service principles to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly
• Pre-visit plans patients’ records to ensure appropriate orders and diagnosis
• Prepares equipment to efficiently collect specimens
• Performs venipuncture, arterial, and capillary punctures following protocols and OSHA standards
• Conducts Point of Care testing
• Prepares specimens for transport to testing labs
• Identifies correct laboratory for testing based on patient and insurance
• Enters data into computer
• Assists patients before, during, and after procedures; instructs on urine collection
• Cleans and sterilizes equipment and work area
• Manages supplies and places orders as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; graduation from an accredited medical vocational institution with phlebotomy diploma
• Preferred: at least one year of phlebotomy experience; medical practice experience helpful; national certification helpful; current CPR preferred; medical terminology knowledge
• Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques and clinic protocols
• Computer literate
• Skills in effective blood draws and patient interactions
• Ability to communicate calmly and interpret instructions
• Coordination of eye–hand movements for patient comfort during blood draws

Salary

Commensurate with experience.
