Job summary

Effingham Health System is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to join our laboratory team. You will perform blood draws, ensure correct patient identification, and handle specimens with care while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy in data entry.

This role requires a phlebotomy credential within 12 months of hire and at least 6 months of venipuncture experience. A fast-paced hospital environment and teamwork with other lab staff are essential.

Qualifications

• Education level equivalent to completion high school and completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
• Phlebotomy certification within 12 months of hire is required.
• Minimum 6 months' venipuncture experience; 1 year preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary collections for all age groups following policy.
• Identify patients and verify orders; label and transport specimens to the lab.
• Input patient data accurately into the computer system and maintain paperwork.
• Adhere to infection control, OSHA and safety standards at all times.
• Communicate with medical staff and maintain confidentiality.
• Keep a clean, organized work area and assist lab staff as needed.
• Adapt to scheduling changes and ensure timely specimen handling.
• Maintain proper PPE and dispose of needles safely.
