Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD seeks a Phlebotomist to join a multidisciplinary team. You will perform venipuncture and capillary collection for inpatients and outpatients, following approved techniques and policies for specimen handling and testing.

You will identify patients, prepare collection instructions, enter data, label and transport specimens, and assist with point-of-care testing while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent.
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification (ASCP).

Responsibilities

• Collect blood and other specimens for inpatient and outpatient testing.
• Identify patients prior to collection and explain procedures to patients.
• Complete patient registration and data entry as required.
• Label, transport and store specimens accurately and promptly.
• Communicate with internal and external customers professionally.
• Review orders to determine collection times and specimen types.
• Perform point-of-care testing per established standards.
• Assist with recordkeeping and compliance with regulatory requirements.
