Job summary

RNInk is seeking a phlebotomist to support Asheville-area labs with routine blood draws, specimen labeling, and timely transport. The role requires venipuncture experience, OSHA compliance, and the ability to travel to Hendersonville and Clyde as needed.

The position involves floating to multiple Asheville locations and maintaining accurate patient data and specimen documentation, with an 6AM–6PM, Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid Phlebotomy certification as required in the employed state.
• Minimum 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens, centrifuge and decontaminate per procedure.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture process clearly to patients.
• Demonstrate technique with straight and butterfly needles.
• Follow physician orders and match requisitions to specimens.
• Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity.
• Record maintenance data and ensure correct labeling.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and relay results.

Summary:

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required
• Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
• Package specimens for transport
• Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
