Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Minimum 1 year of experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and complete decontamination procedures
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Explain the venipuncture and/or other specimen collection process to patients
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fulfill physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis for a projected duration of 3 months, with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and processing in support of patient care and diagnostic testing.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and complete decontamination procedures
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and/or other specimen collection process (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures, using appropriate containers/tubes and labeling to maintain specimen integrity during transport
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
