  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) as required
  • Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
