St. Tammany Parish Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist to obtain blood specimens and perform support duties in a busy healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and current BLS certification.
The role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work standing or sitting for extended periods. Physical lifting of at least 50 pounds may be necessary, and adherence to C.A.R.E.S. standards is expected.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary puncture from adult, pediatric and neonatal patients employing proper patient identification and infection control measures.
Enters test requests into the laboratory computer system.
Performs other support duties such as answering the phone, handling questions from medical/hospital staff, ordering supplies, and investigating discrepant patient orders.
Complies with organization’s C.A.R.E.S. standards.
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.
Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
Physical effort required: Constant (67%-100%) – pushing/pulling, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing;
Frequently (34%-66%) – NONE;
Occasionally (1%-33%) – lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching.
