Responsibilities
  • Perform specimen collection techniques including venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection, and specimen culture collection, following proper protocols.
  • Promote professionalism and foster a cooperative working environment with colleagues.
  • Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
  • Communicate pertinent data about patients or laboratory samples effectively to care providers.
  • Support organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Attain and demonstrate competency in following procedural directions and protocols.
  • Prioritize and organize workload efficiently, assisting coworkers to maintain productivity.
  • Follow proper specimen packaging and transport protocols.
  • Handle specimen accessioning as assigned.
  • Practice proper infection control, patient identification, and prompt specimen transport.
  • Perform drug screen collection and processing as assigned.
  • Answer laboratory department phone calls professionally.
  • Recognize emergent conditions and react appropriately.
  • Provide phlebotomy services in a professional, patient-centered manner.
  • Engage in self-evaluation to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain accountability for the quality of care provided to patients.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience
  • Certification from a recognized agency, such as:
    • National Heathcareer Association - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA)
    • National Heathcareer Association - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA CCMA)
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology - Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP)
    • American Medical Technologists - Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT)
    • National Center for Competency Testing - National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT)
    • American Certification Agency - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA)
  • Experience working in a clinical setting
