Job summary

United WestLabs, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to provide high-quality specimen collection and patient care.

You will work under the Phlebotomy Supervisor in a safe, efficient, patient-focused environment. Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy with compassion, maintaining sterile procedures, completing requisitions accurately, communicating with patients and staff, and supporting compliance and infection control standards.

Qualifications

  • Review Medicare-related forms when required and ensure compliance.
  • Accurately collect specimens and communicate test orders to clients.
  • Keep the draw station stocked and inform supervisor of performance issues.
  • Assist with courier duties and deliveries as needed.

Job description

At United WestLabs, Inc., our Phlebotomists play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and service. Working under the direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, you will perform phlebotomy services with professionalism, compassion, and attention to quality while supporting a safe, efficient, and patient-focused environment. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy professionally, competently and with compassion for the patient.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for all staff members and patients, including without limitation, collecting and disposing of specimens and other contaminated material in accordance with established policies and procedures and with adherence to the appropriate standards of infection control and body fluid precautions and protective equipment when necessary.
  • Ensure that requisitions are completed properly, and the patient demographic, diagnosis, insurance and physician information are included on or attached to the requisitions. Diagnostic information shall be in a narrative or ICD-9 code format and valid only if legible.
  • If a patient is a Medicare patient, you must review the National Coverage Decisions (“NCD”) and Local Medical review Policies (“LMRP”) for the tests ordered on the requisition form to determine if an Advance Beneficiary Notice (“ABN”) must be completed. If the form is needed, correctly complete the form with the patient.
  • Ensure that the Medicare Secondary Form (“MSP”) is completed when necessary.
  • Accurately collect all specimens necessary to fulfill the clients’ lab orders.
  • Provide accurate communication to clients and their staff regarding the proper ordering of lab tests.
  • Ensure that draw station where you work is kept clean and adequately stocked with supplies every day.
  • On a daily basis, inform your Operations Supervisor of your job performance issues, concerns and schedule.
  • If you work for UWL and are located within a physician’s office, you are not permitted to do any work for the physician and/or the physician’s medicalpractice, your sole responsibility is to collect specimens to be sent to a UWL client’s laboratory.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform the duties of a courier if called upon.
  • Deliver supplies when necessary.
  • Obtain any additional information if called upon.
  • Contact Medicare patients to fulfill compliance requirements in regard to MSP forms.
  • Any other reasonable task you may be asked to perform by the Operations Supervisor and which is not included herein.
