Job summary

Universal Health Services in Riverside, CA seeks a phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and process specimens across ages from newborns to geriatrics. Independent work at Eastvale site with strong emphasis on patient comfort and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy certificates from an accredited training institute.
  • California State Phlebotomy Tech I certificate required. AHA BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in preparation for venipuncture procedures.
  • Perform venipuncture using universal precautions and approved techniques.
  • Complete all paperwork and documentation for each exam performed.
  • Utilize Order Entry System to access orders and complete exams.
  • Obtain specimens and ensure adequate quantity for tests; label and store appropriately.
  • Respond to draw requests with attention to order frequency and emergencies (STAT/ASAP).
  • Assist with scheduling tests and appointments.
  • Respect patient privacy and safeguard rights.
  • Respond to life-saving situations per policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities within the department.
  • Stock supplies as necessary.
  • Process specimens per laboratory protocol.
  • Adhere to Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.

Summary:Performs venipuncture and processes patient specimens for analysis or other medical purposes. Must be able to work with the elderly to infants. Eastvale is a single person site; applicants must be able to work independently and be competent with patients of all ages ranging from newborns to geriatrics.

  • 1. Assist patients in preparation for venipuncture procedures. Explains procedures to patient/family to gain cooperation and understanding.
  • 2. Perform venipuncture using universal precautions/personal protective equipment and approved techniques to ensure appropriate patient care.
  • 3. Complete all paperwork and documentation as required for each exam performed.
  • 4. Utilizes Order Entry System to access orders and complete exams.
  • 5. Obtain specimens, ensure adequate quantity for tests ordered; label and store specimens in appropriate containers, and complete applicable logs.
  • 6. Respond to draw requests and with appropriate attention to order frequency and indicators of medical emergency (i.e. STAT, ASAP, and timed draws).
  • 7. Assist with the scheduling of tests and appointments.
  • 8. Recognize patients’ privacy and safeguard those rights.
  • 9. Respond to life-saving situations following policies, procedures and protocol.
  • 10. Participate in the development, implementation and follow-through of departmental quality improvement activities.
  • 11. Stock supplies as necessary
  • 12. Process specimens in accordance with laboratory protocol.
  • 13. Adhere to the policy and procedures as presented by Riverside Medical Clinic.
