Job summary

Grand River Health in Rifle, CO is seeking a compassionate Phlebotomist to deliver accurate specimen collection and laboratory support. The role balances hands-on patient care with clerical duties in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The ideal candidate has 0–2 years phlebotomy experience, certification preferred, and a willingness to obtain BLS within 3 months. English proficiency and system familiarity are required.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Phlebotomist preferred.
• AHA BLS certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained.
• 0 to 2 years phlebotomy experience or equivalent preferred.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy practices and safety.
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
• Experience with arterial blood collection preferred.
• Able to become proficient in hospital systems within six months.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood and other specimens via venipuncture and finger sticks.
• Verify patient identity and prepare specimens for testing.
• Perform drug screenings and breath alcohol testing.
• Process and transport specimens while maintaining quality and safety.
• Answer multiline phones and respond to email/fax inquiries.
• Process department mail and complete clerical duties as needed.
• Participate in on-call rotation and carrier services as required.
• Maintain accurate documentation and perform other duties as assigned.
• Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.

What You'll Do

We're looking for a compassionate and detail-oriented Phlebotomistwho is committed to delivering exceptional patient care through accurate specimen collection and laboratory support.

• Collect blood and other patient specimens using a variety of collection techniques, including venipuncture and finger sticks.
• Verify patient identity and prepare specimens for laboratory testing and analysis.
• Perform drug screenings and breath alcohol testing.
• Process and prepare specimens for transport while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Answer multiline phones and respond to email and fax inquiries.
• Process department mail and complete other clerical duties as needed.
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide carrier services when required.
• Maintain accurate documentation and perform other duties as assigned.
• Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is dependable, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys balancing hands-on patient interactions with clerical and operational responsibilities.

• Certification as a Phlebotomist preferred.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• 0 to 2 years of phlebotomy experience or equivalent preferred.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy practices, patient safety, specimen collection, and laboratory procedures.
• Strong problem-solving, organization, and quality assurance skills.
• Ability to work independently and remain calm in emergency situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, providers, and coworkers.
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
• Experience with arterial blood collection and general specimen collection preferred.
• Ability to become proficient within six months in Microsoft Office and applicable hospital systems, including Meditech, Kronos, HealthStream, Mayo, Carescripts, Allscripts, and Galactica.

Our total rewards package includes

• Pay Range: $20.43 - $27.55/hour (based on experience)
• Shift Differentials: $2–$4/hour for nights and weekends, and other incentive pay available.
• PRN Differential: 10% differential in addition to base rate salary
