Job summary

Mercy Medical Center Redding is seeking a Phlebotomist to competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety.

You will identify patients, explain procedures, perform venipunctures, label/prepare specimens, and follow safety protocols with meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills for accurate diagnostics and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a CA state approved phlebotomy license/certification program.
• At least 1 year of acute care phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Phlebotomist: CA
• Basic Life Support CPR required.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on all age groups per standards in a timely manner.
• Identify patients and label all draws per standards.
• Obtain correct specimens for tests per protocols.
• Respond to STAT, ASAP, timed and special lab requests per standards.
• Perform clerical duties including answering phones and greeting staff and patients.
• Receive and process samples per department standards.

As a Phlebotomist, you will competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety.

Every day you will identify patients, explain procedures, proficiently perform venipunctures, and accurately label/prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to safety protocols.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills for accurate diagnostics and patient satisfaction.

• Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures on all age groups as appropriate according to departmental standards in a timely manner
• Performs proper patient identification and labeling of all draws according to departmental standards
• Obtains correct specimens for tests according to departmental standards
• Responds to STAT, ASAP, Timed and special lab requests (Rapid Response, Trauma, etc...) per departmental standards
• Performs clerical duties including answering the phones, assisting hospital staff within the lab and greeting customers in a polite and professional manner at all times
• Receives and processes samples according to departmental standards

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Diploma/GED
• Completion of CA state approved phlebotomy license program
• One year of acute care experience (includes NICU, Pediatrics, Critical Care Patients) as a Phlebotomist. May consider candidates with less experience if no qualified applicants apply
