Illinois CancerCare is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to join our team! The Phlebotomist obtains specimens from patients, assists that physician and clinical staff as requested, maintains records of specimen handling, and maintains supplies and an orderly work environment.

Pay Range: $15.00 - $24.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine phlebotomy procedures according to our established procedures and policies.
  • Follow assigned schedule and work procedures.
  • Collect, receive, identify and label specimens following quality assurance and safety policies.
  • Collect specimens for off-site testing and research.
  • Perform port draws and therapeutic phlebotomy procedures as needed.
  • Perform Glucometer testing and accurately record patient results and QC each day of use if applicable.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple work needs/duties.
  • Clean and maintain work areas.
  • Monitor supply inventory
  • Work additional hours as requested.
  • Observe OSHA and other regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Adherence to the ILCC employee handbook, HIPAA policies and ILCC code of conduct.
  • Communicates effectively with office staff, patients, physicians, and external office contacts.
  • Travel to outside clinics as needed or requested.
  • Perform all other duties as requested or required.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work on a desktop computer for extended periods of time. May require working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS/TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, chemotherapy, biohazardous specimens & wastes and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Skill in performing the full range of phlebotomy skills.
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy equipment.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with other staff, physicians, and patients.
  • Knowledge of current information and regulation regarding proper phlebotomy technique.
  • Ability to follow protocols and work independently.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to react calmly in emergency situations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

High School Diploma.

Completion of accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.

One year phlebotomy experience.
